Good eyesight is essential in making sure your child develops to their full potential both at school and socially.
Most children have excellent sight and do not need to wear glasses.
However, some eye conditions do not display any signs or symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to take your child for a sight test.
Eye tests for children under 16 (or under 19 and in full time education) are free on the NHS.
Our aim is to ensure your child can see to the best of their ability.
Your child does not have to be able to read or talk to have a sight test as we use a range of techniques and modern equipment to detect visual problems at any age.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is one of the most up-to-date eye scan technologies for people of all ages.
The OCT machine captures images in cross sectional scans and in 3D enabling us to see the different layers of the retina.
Using the OCT, it allows us to see problems within the eye that could not easily be seen before and at a much earlier stage.
This usually allows you better treatment options and a better visual outcome.
The scans only take a short appointment to carry out and often do not require the use of eye drops, so it is safe to drive afterwards.
