Andrew Jelley Opticians is independent and forward thinking, it was established in 1983 and provides a full optometric and optical service from two practices in Bromyard and Tenbury Wells. We can provide NHS services for those eligible. Our fully qualified practitioners are accredited to provide enhanced NHS services including PEARS at both practices for patients with Worcestershire or Herefordshire GPs.

We are also able to provide NHS Low Vision Aid services for patients with Herefordshire GPs. We can provide limited car parking at Tenbury Wells with level access to the practice, this is especially useful to those with mobility difficulties. If you would like to use the facility please ring the practice prior to visit to ensure sufficient space. Our comprehensive eye examinations may take a little longer than you may have experienced before.

We like to give you time to discuss any eye problems and make you feel comfortable, not rushed. We offer visual stress assessments to help improve reading speed and ability.
Services
In 1983 Andrew Jelley succeeded Douglas Newton at 34 High Street Bromyard, the following year he took over from Dick McCoy in Tenbury Wells.
Mr Newton had established the Bromyard practice only a few years before but Dick McCoy had been practising as an optician since the start of the NHS, his original NHS spectacles are on display in the practice and a picture can be seen in this website gallery.
Interestingly Mr McCoy was one of a small number of practitioners who held a dual qualification as a Chemist and Ophthalmic Optician.
Visual stress, also known as Meares-Irlen Syndrome, is a condition referring to difficulties with reading due to perceived "distortions" in pages of text.
This occurs due to hyper-excitability of the visual cortex (the part of the brain responsible for visual processing) when viewing certain visual patterns.
It has been scientifically proven that for certain patients suffering from visual stress these symptoms can be significantly reduced with the use of a specific coloured filter.
Visual stress can affect anyone but is more common in conditions including: dyslexia, photosensitive migraine and epilepsy, autism spectrum disorders and ADHD.
