The same four staff members have been together for over 30 years so not only do we work well together but feel people appreciate seeing the same faces year on year. Stella and I began our partnership here in Lenton in 1983 in a conscious decision to avoid the more high street locations. Our clientele mainly come from the west side of Nottingham, the Wollaton, Bramcote and Beeston areas plus the QMC and Nottingham University stretching through Lenton and up to the Park estate.
Stella is the dispensing optician dealing mainly with frames and lenses and I perform the eye examinations and contact lens fitting and aftercare. The first and main thing to remember is that your specs will sit on your face every day for the next 2 years or more so you want them to fit and be as comfortable as possible.
You'll also want them to look good and give as clear vision as possible.
Most people tend to think in terms of the frames but in reality it's the lenses that will have the major impact on weight and appearance.
Recent trends have been towards metal frames.
The majority of these now have sprung sides which make them more comfortable to wear and more resilient.

Our recent visit to Optrafair left us really impressed with the new Marylyn Munroe and James Dean frames.
The first collection available within the Marilyn Monroe range includes some styles rich with Swarovski crystal elements, strong metallic details, and hand-made mosaic patterns.

These day's they account for practically all the contact lenses we fit.
The benefits of frequent replacement are well known and, with the choice of materials we have these days, far more people can wear contact lenses.
Please note we only fit soft disposable lenses at this practice.
For hard and gas permeable lenses we can refer you to a local practice who specialises in that type of lens.
These account for practically all lenses fitted to the under 40's when only the distance uision needs correcting.
These day's they account for practically all the contact lenses we fit.

These days we can offer clear vision at both distance and near to most people up to and beyond retirement age.
At it's simplest we correct your dominant eye with a distance lens and non dominant eye with a reading lens.

With contact lenses, as the eyes move with the lens, it works well in most cases.

2. Next we get an idea of your prescription with our electronic autorefractor, this is a computerised form of sight test and gets a pretty accurate measurement in seconds.
All this before we enter the testing room.
4. Next we follow a normal sight test routine to assess the focusing and coordination of the eyes.
If you are over 40 I will now measure the pressure in your eyes with my new Icare tonometer or the slightly older Pulsair air puff tonometer.
6. Finally I take an photo of the back of your eye to confirm everything is normal, this digital image of your retina is stored for future reference.
All this before we enter the testing room.
