Services
At H&S, you can be guaranteed a dedicated patient journey and personal service level that's second to none.
We usually carry out eye examinations on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings, and will always try our best to find a time that suits you.
Usually we recommend that you have an eye exam every two years or more frequently* if the optometrist feels it is necessary.
The eye exam not only accurately assesses your ability to see but also gauges the general health of your eyes and can enable the optometrist to detect other eye and health problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure, at an early stage.

If one or more of the criteria listed below applies to you, you will be entitled to a free NHS sight test.
A sight test is also free if the test is carried out through a hospital eye department, or at the request of a hospital, as part of the management of your eye condition.
People named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3) may also get help.

As such, we have a digital retinal camera that can take detailed images of inside your eye so that you can see what we see.
It also enables us to keep a visual record of your eye, which we can review and refer to when you come back to see us again.
If you would like a digital photograph of the back of your eye, without a full eye exam, there is a charge of 10.

What is the HMR Minor Eye Conditions' Service (MECS)?
The HMR Minor Eye Conditions Service provides assessment and treatment for people with recently occurring minor eye conditions.
The service is provided by MECS accredited optometrists (also known as opticians) across Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale who have specialist knowledge, training and skills.
If you are unsure whether your symptoms can be assessed and treated by the service, please contact us.
NOTE: If you have an eye condition that is being regularly monitored by our optometrist or hospital eye service, this will not be covered by MECS; for example cataracts, diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma.

We care about your child's sight and our optician is qualified to recognise the warning signs of eye problems from an early age.
We are experienced in testing very young children and highly recommend that children be tested before they learn to read and start school.
As a child's eyes are fully developed at the age of eight, it is important that they are regularly checked before then.
Should our examination reveal that your child requires glasses, he or she may also receive a voucher that will enable them to choose FREE frames from a selected range.
