Catherine Harrison is an optometrist who graduated professionally in 1999. Since then she has worked for a number of large high street opticians as well as smaller independent practices. This has enabled her to develop a wide range of clinical skills including diagnosis and management of ocular conditions, accurate prescriptions, contact lens fitting and dispensing skills.
Catherine has been working at the practice as resident optometrist since 2009 and is thrilled to be taking over the practice. Janet is a dispensing optician and she joined the practice in 2020.

Regular eye examinations are essential to enable us to have the best vision possible.
Early detection and diagnosis of ocular conditions will give the best possible prognosis, so it is essential that you contact your optometrist if you or your family are experiencing any problems with your eyes.
Retinal photography is an important part of the modern eye examination.
It allows the practitioner to identify retinal pathology early and is an excellent tool for monitoring ocular diseases like dry Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy.

Myopia (short-sighted) has increased significantly worldwide in the past 20 years.
If myopia is in your family then it is important to have your children checked regularly to see if they too are developing it.
Other factors have been shown to affect the risk of myopia.
These include not enough time spent outdoors and too much time doing near vision tasks like i-pads and extensive reading.
Recent studies have suggested that fitting a multifocal contact lens in children can help slow down the progression of myopia by up to 50%.
